Jewelry Care

Caring for your doodle beads Jewelry

Doodle Beads brand provides affordable products that are of the highest quality. Many of our pieces are plated. Plating is a process where a layer of gold is placed on to coat the surface of another metal. As the jewelry is not 100% solid gold, extra care should be taken to maximize its lifespan. Anything plated will eventually tarnish with time and wear.

Follow these care tips to slow down tarnishing to our jewelry:

  • Clean using a dry and soft cloth. Avoid abrasive materials like a terry cloth, bath towel, and shirt to polish your jewelry. Even tissues or paper towels are micro-abrasive and should be avoided.
  • not use silver cleaner or silver dip, & try to avoid overcleaning.
  • Stash jewelry away in an airtight container such as ziploc bag individually to keep chains tangle and scratch-free.
  • Plated jewelry will tarnish over time. Avoid it tarnishing faster than it should by keeping it from coming into contact with materials such as detergents, bleaches, ammonia, chlorine, perfumes, body-creams, make-up and hairspray.
  • Keep dry. Remove your jewelry when sleeping, exercising, showering or swimming.
  • Although rare, sometimes individual body chemistries can react with the metal and cause a reaction. Pregnancy, thyroid disorders, hormone levels, medications and more can affect body alkalinity versus acidity, and may cause a reaction with your piece. It’s definitely unusual and is based on the individual.
